We need to think our way out of this, not just wait for it to get better."

"What we're experiencing right now is a complete sea of change requiring us to completely rethink what were doing. We need to think our way out of this, not just wait for it to get better." "...It feels like a "survival of the fittest" special on Animal Planet."

Quotes from Marketoonist  Tom Fishburne. Regarding this cartoon from 2009.

At the time in the article Fishburn said this:

Five or ten years from now, how will we look back on this time?  As bleak as this economy is, I imagine that there will be companies that will have excelled because of the sea change, not in spite of it.  Some will leverage inherent competitive advantages (like McDonalds). But I think many will be current businesses that fundamentally adapted in this new climate.  They will have figured out how to make due with less.  To think creatively about old problems.  To see opportunities in the storm.

Well, it's 11 years later an we're in a totally different sea, but facing the same options/obstacles. Businesses who may have been reluctant to go online, or just not had the time, are now wondering if they made the right decision, or worse, rushing to get an online presence to save their businesses, hoping to "GO VIRAL". Sadly this brings out the shady Social Media Marketers. Once again, we urge you to take a moment, make a plan, build a strategy and cover all of your bases. Doing something rash right now might hinder your business after this crisis has passed. Remember, when marketing in a crisis, you have a whole other range of questions you are going to have to answer, and these questions, more than likely, are not in your area of expertise.

If you're looking for a quick fix, there isn't one, but with guidance, and a sound social media business strategy looking to the future, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It just requires re-thinking. We would love to help plan your strategy going forward. Every business is being asked to make decisions with incomplete information right now. If you're on the fence on what to do next, get in touch with us at socialmediabridgeinternational.com, we offer a free consultation.
